Online social networks increasingly expose people to users who propagate discriminatory, hateful, and violent content. Young users, in particular, are vulnerable to exposure to such content, which can have harmful psychological and social repercussions. Given the massive scale of today's social networks, in terms of both published content and number of users, there is an urgent need for effective systems to aid Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in identifying and addressing users that disseminate malicious content. In this work we introduce IMMENSE, a machine learning-based method for detecting malicious social network users. Our approach adopts a hybrid classification strategy that integrates three perspectives: the semantics of the users' published content, their social relationships and their spatial information. Such contextual perspectives potentially enhance classification performance beyond text-only analysis. Importantly, IMMENSE employs an inductive learning approach, enabling it to classify previously unseen users or entire new networks without the need for costly and time-consuming model retraining procedures. Experiments carried out on a real-world Twitter/X dataset showed the superiority of IMMENSE against five state of the art competitors, confirming the benefits of its hybrid approach for effective deployment in social network monitoring systems.
Social relationships shape access to resources, exposure to conflict and group stability, yet automated livestock monitoring typically treats behaviour as isolated events. Here, we present a valence-aware social-network framework that transforms video-derived interactions into herd-level representations of affiliative and agonistic organization. A pose-based computer-vision pipeline analysed 7 h 39 min of continuous video from the pre-milking area of one commercial dairy farm. After quality control, 1,183 of 1,414 candidate interactions remained, involving 36 cows and 177 dyads. In a predicted-class-balanced audit of 198 pipeline-detected clips, automated and manual labels agreed in 82.8% of cases, with an unweighted audit-sample macro-F1 of 0.872. These values describe the audited sample rather than prevalence-weighted or end-to-end deployment performance. The aggregated network was connected (density = 0.281; transitivity = 0.513; mean path length = 1.88), and predicted affiliative events formed five algorithmic communities (modularity Q = 0.429). Within the observed zone, predicted agonistic interactions comprised 72.4% of retained events and 76.0% of interaction duration. The cow with the most partners did not have the highest betweenness centrality. Separating events by predicted valence produced descriptively different affiliative and agonistic layers, with contrasting edge sets, community partitions and individual positions. Thus, pooled interaction counts can obscure the behavioural composition of an observed network. Valence-aware analysis provides a framework for testing hypotheses about competition, affiliation and welfare-relevant change, while requiring longitudinal validation before use as a welfare or health indicator.

Objective: This paper investigates the gendered structure of speaker addressee relationships in film dialogue, asking not merely who speaks, but who is spoken to and how conversational dynamics unfold across gender lines. Methods: Using a manually annotated dataset of 4,600 directed dialogue events from 38 film screenplays, we apply network analysis, chi squared tests, paired statistical comparisons, and participation shift analysis across three studies. Key Findings: Male characters dominate as both speakers and addressees corpus wide, even in scenes with more women; cross gender dialogue is directionally symmetric on average but clustered at the film level; and same gender turns diffuse conversational attention while cross gender turns produce tighter dyadic reciprocation. Conclusion: Gender bias in film dialogue operates through the architecture of conversation itself, through exclusion from interaction and structural positioning as addressees, rather than through speaking time or within conversation directional imbalance alone.
